Kurimoto Kaoru is the author of both the manga and the light novel versions of this story. The manga transferring the main light novels to manga form is up to 5 tankoubon so far (pictured on top). A second manga, named "Guin Saga: 7-Nin no Madoushi" (released in America as "The Guin Saga Manga:The Seven Magi") (middle picture) which is 3 tankoubon long, and transfers a light novel side-story to manga form. Yanagisawa Kazuaki is the artist. This series is published in Japan by Jive and in America by Vertical. The light novels that the manga and anime are based on is Kurimoto's legacy: the series started in the late 1970's and only ended at book 128 in 2009 due to the author's death, making it one of the longest running books published in the world by a single author. Since she was supposedly working on #130 when she died, there may be a couple more light novels published. Book # 129 was released in October of 2009. There are many side-story novels and many artists used over the life of the series, including Shinobu Tanno, Naoyuki Kato (who also worked on the Ginga eiyuu densetsu (a.k.a. Legend of Galactic Heroes) manga), Jun Suemi, and Yoshitaka Amano (who did character design &/ or illustrations for Uchuu no Kishi Tekkaman (a.k.a. Tekkaman),Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman (a.k.a. G-Force), Vampire Hunter D, Final Fantasy, Angel's Egg, Twilight of the Cockroaches, Sohryuden, among many others, including the American releases of "The Sandman: The Dream Hunters" and "Elektra and Wolverine: The Redeemer".) The light novels, too, are published in Japan by Jive and in America by Vertical.
