This series is published in Japan by Shueisha and in America by Viz. Obata also did the art for Hikaru no Go and Ayatsuri Sakon.

In addition to the popular official manga, many doujinshi have been released. There have also been two Japanese-language live action Death Note movies. A third movie, focusing on L, is supposed to be released in 2008.
